On the second day of summer school, we started to become familiar with the daily routine here at summer school. It was totally different than what i had expected it to be like. I assumed we would be told what to do and how to do it, but our mentors gave us the opportunity to do the project based on how we decided to do it. They provided us with help and guidance along the way whenever we needed the assistant but we had to do everything as if we were actually at work. My team mate and I had no difficulties in settling in and we got straight to work on our project.
At 10:00 am, we gathered in the commons for a discussion on communication skills which was done by Kelly Pringle. In this discussion, we were asked to provide five Dos and Don’ts of communication. We were then asked to present the Dos and Don’ts as a team where each member of our team explained one point each.
After this, Kelly provided us with a deck of random picture cards and instructed us to pick at least two cards. Cards to describe our week so far at immedia summer school, and cards that will assist us in complimenting any team member of our choice. We all had a turn to use the cards to express of feeling about being here at summer school. Once we gave compliments to each others, we closed the discussion feeling stronger and closer as a team. This was such an awesome feeling!
The communications discussion taught me that it is so important to get along with your team mates because good communication and relationships are what allows a team to function smoothly and efficiently. A person who feels appreciated will always do more than what is expected!
The rest of the day was spent on developing the website and creating the graphical diagrams to add to the site. We also partook in our teams morning stand up where we talked about the progress we made and what we will tackle for the day. By the end of the day we managed to complete 75% of our project.
