My first day of Summer School started on Monday, the 16th of November.
Monday, 16 November: I was introduced to the summer school program with a little presentation by Nomfundo, later there was an MS Teams meeting with Kelly where she spoke about great communication methods and I can honestly say that it was an informative meeting. There are some methods that we spoke about that I know I will implement in the future. Finally, I met my mentor Rubashen who will be helping me with my web development project. This was my first time coming across web development so he kindly suggested a few sites I can use to learn the concepts of HTML and CSS. I left on Monday having learned so much.
Tuesday, 17 November: I entered day 2 with an open mind and I was looking to the day. We had a meeting with one of the Geek members and he shed some light on what it means to be a Geek. After planning my website, I started to implement my first couple of lines of code. I struggled a little bit at first but my mentor suggested websites that I can use to draw inspiration from and that really helped me. My web project is about the upcoming Black Panther 2 movie. As a fan of Marvel movies, I didn’t hesitate when it came to choosing this topic. The staff here at immedia are also very friendly, I don’t feel lonely at all. it feels like I’ve been working here for a while.
Wednesday, 18 November: Day 3 was definitely not what I thought it would be. I met the CEO of immedia and he gave us a presentation on the history of immedia and the future of the company. It was so informative! It opened my eyes and mind even more and I left the meeting feeling very inspired & motivated. I spent the rest of the day completing my website. I also met Kelly for the first time in person. When I look at the progress I’ve made in the past couple of days, I am proud because I’m learning and applying the things I’ve learned. When I make a mistake, I figure out how to solve the problem by either asking for help or either looking for a solution online. I feel like with more practice and patience, I can really become better at this. Tomorrow I plan on starting with the CSS part of my website, I’m nervous because I know nothing about CSS but I’m excited because I’m going to be learning something new that will help me transform my project.
