In the week of February the 7th, I had the opportunity to attend Summer School for the purpose of gaining real-world experience in web development. For the week’s duration I was assigned a mentor to assist me with the development of my project.  One of my biggest challenges during the week was time management, I had to push myself to make sure that I gave time to every aspect the project. I used HTML, CSS and Bootstrap, I preferred to use these web technologies over CMS systems such as WordPress and Wix because they gave me the freedom to customize my website without the restriction I often felt when working with CMS systems. Bootstrap, a CSS framework for mobile-first websites, allowed me to make my website responsive and mobile-friendly.

Project Overview

I was given a project to design and create a website for a new imaginary blockbuster movie from one of the following franchises:

  • Star Wars
  • Marvel
  • Lord of the Rings
  • Harry Potter
  • Pokémon

I chose the Harry Potter franchise, as it spoke to me the most, and reminded me of the fond memories of Harry Potter from my childhood days. The website was to consist of five static pages which would provide further information about the movie/film, such as cast members and release information.

Project Design Overview

The title I chose for my blockbuster movie was Harry Potter and Guardians of Death. I took inspiration from the Wizarding World website for the layout and design of my website. I included an about, production, and cast page detailing the different aspects of the movie. Below I have shared screenshots of the homepage of my website.

Conclusion

I gained valuable knowledge on the steps and planning required to complete a project. I enjoyed working on this project, and the creative processes involved and how my ideas came to life. I got the opportunity to further my knowledge on web development and the different aspects of how user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) combine to make a website that is both aesthetically pleasing and easily accessible to users.
