APIs, or application program interfaces, are definitely the most interesting things that I have been introduced to in my time here at immedia. I previously thought that they were something like extensions or plug-ins, but they are actually essentially a set of rules which determine how software components should interact.  A set of rules probably doesn’t sound very interesting, until you consider the possibilities. Using an API, you can make the experience of using your app far more personalized and faster for the user, you can interact with specific parts of another software’s functions, you can totally change the way that you receive and send data, and much more that I haven’t thought of.

So, thanks to Darren, I have a grasp on how APIs work now and I will be spending the rest of my time here learning about them and how to use them. I probably won’t even scratch the surface of their capabilities, but its definitely a fantastic start!
